This would be much more appropriate if today were a Friday (look at the date). At first glance, everything seems ok. Went to Dragon Con over Labor Day weekend. Lots of interesting experiences, as always. Had fun this year with our cousin, Johnathon. Of course, I went as Loki AGAIN, but this time I was Lady Loki from the comics. Here are a few pics:
My dry run in the backyard.
My new friend Alie and I as Lady Lokis.
Johnathon and Katie as Steve and Robin from Stranger Things.
These were fun times. But on either side, not so much.
Before Dragon Con, my parent's cat had a medical issue and had surgery. I was asked to catsit while they were at work that Friday. At first, Daisy was responsive and drinking water, though not eating. Through the hours, she became less responsive, and stopped drinking. I phoned the vet. They said bring her in right away. I took my mom's car (Katie had taken mine to pick up Mom at work) and drove the poor kitty to the vet. She had more injuries than they'd realized- a torn diaphragm. It was the last time we saw our "Thursday Cat", Thursday being the day we usually visit my parents. We loved her like we loved our two cats. It was heartbreaking.

Daisy loved this particular pair of my shoes.
When we returned from Dragon Con, it was to find that the fleas that had plagued Sasha had spread to Pebbles and Raven. Pebbles was covered. She was skinny as she could be. She'd been losing weight, but we thought it was just that she was old. Now she wasn't eating. Would you want to eat with fleas trying to crawl in your mouth? We bathed both cats and put a topical medicine on them. Pebbles still wasn't eating. Jim took her to the emergency vet because all the regular offices were full, and they diagnosed her with anemia. We were given a food to stimulate her appetite and anti-nausea meds. She never ate the food. The following day, she stopped drinking. She was clearly in pain. Again, no vets had appointments and the vet ER didn't open until 3pm. We had no pain killers. We sat with her, cuddled her, cooed to her, gave her water through a syringe- everything we could think of. At 2pm, she began seizing and died in my arms. We are devastated. It was unexpected, though in retrospect we should have realized something when she began losing weight. The fleas just made everything worse. We loved her so much and miss her. She was old, but that is scant consolation. Especially just a few weeks after Daisy.
Our precious Halloween kitty
Did I mention my dad? Dad B lives in Greer, SC. I sent him some texts with the Dragon Con pics, while we were there . He told me he had Covid. The next day, I found out he went to the hospital. He tested negative for Covid, but had pneumonia. His lungs aren't in good shape, and he's had pneumonia a few times before. He has been moved to a rehab facility. He walked with a walker but couldn't go far, getting out of breath. He has lost a lot of weight. I'm not sure where things stand now. He has a loyal and attentive friend who has been keeping me abreast of the situation. Thank you, God for Betty! We have a beach trip planned, leaving on Saturday. Not sure I'll be able to stay the whole time. Please pray for Rusty Stevens.
We are all feeling overwhelmed right now. It feels like one bad thing after another. Makes me very grateful for the fun of Dragon Con and that Katie and I had a beautiful day at the Greek Festival (though it had some disappointments, too)! Our current sermon series at Mosaic Church is "Did I Say That?" on things that sound Christian-y, but may not be scriptural. This Sunday's was "God will never give you more than you can handle." Scripture says we will never have MORE TEMPTATION than we can handle. But does God allow circumstances that are more than we can handle? OH YEAH! But he doesn't give us more than HE can handle. I take comfort that my God is big enough to handle all the crap that is piling up right now.
Note- Raven is now covered in fleas, but she is eating and drinking. Our vet gave us a different topical that we had to wait until today to use, due to the use of the other one that didn't work. Hopefully, it will kill a good many of the fleas. We moved her into the bathroom, instead of the bedroom to take care of fleas in that room.
