Chemo was harder this week. A bone strengthener was added and I hit all the side effects- jaw pain, fever, achiness- ugh! Also, the fatigue has intensified. Eating is just a chore. My hair is coming out in gobs. With curly hair that looks fuller than it is, it might take another week to notice. I like hats, though, so I'm not really fussed about it. I am still having issues with insomnia and my anxiety is through the roof. I've contacted my therapist for an appointment about that. Also, "pray without ceasing" has become almost literal. I constantly cry out to God. Good thing He's God and not a human because He'd totally be facepalming, thinking, "Not her AGAIN." I already miss the person I used to be. I miss going walking in parks and shopping at Walmart. I miss doing things. My mind wants to do things but my body wants to just lay there. Even typing this has taken me days to get to where I could think and sit and type and not just lie around like a bump on a log. I found myself wishing I live in New Zealand where the pandemic is under control. But I'd want my friends to live there, too. Bonus- going to see Hobbit Houses! I haven't even had the energy to work much on my fan fiction or dolls which soothes me. It's all real now.
Katie and I took a trip to Florida in Jan. 2017 for her birthday to Universal and Disney. My SIL (who is currently furloughed) works at Disney, so we stayed with her and her husband. We spent a day at each destination and a day around the home park. It was a nice trip. At Disney Hollywood Studios, Avenue of the Americas had just been torn up to prepare for Stars Wars Land. We knew it would open in 2019 and planned to go back, but that year we spent Christmas in PA, and a trip right after was too much, so we pushed our plans to...2020. When I got my diagnosis, that pretty much put paid to our plans. We hadn't come up with any definites or started organizing, still it was a disappointment. It wasn't such a big deal that I talked about it, though.
I want to tell you about some special people in my life. I went with one of my former coworkers (who is also a dear and special person in my life) from the preschool to Discovery Place's adults only Science on the Rocks Wizard night a couple of years ago. There was a trivia game and I enjoyed talking with the ladies at my table. They were the founders of the Lake Norman Chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance, centered in Mooresville. The HP Alliance was formed to utilize the fandom to promote things like charity, service, and activism (go vote!). The LKN Nifflers met at breweries from Cornelius to Mooresville, and occasionally at houses for special gatherings. I found out later that there is a chapter in Meck Co. that met less than 5 miles from my house, but by that time, both Katie and I were active in, and loved our group. These folks are fun, kind, and loving people. I had found a new tribe. Obviously, our meetings have gone online. At our September meeting, my Nifflers shocked and humbled me. They have created a GoFundMe to take me to Hogwarts (Universal)! They had even already raised money just from our small group! They didn't know about the plans Katie and I originally had. I won't get Disney in, but I might get to see my family, though, while I'm there. And I get to do Hogwarts with fellow enthusiasts! We are currently thinking February, when I'll hopefully be between chemo rounds. I hate feeling like I'm self promoting, but some of you have asked what you can do for me. My family takes care of me in a big way, so I don't need much in the way of practical help, but if you feel led to give, here is the link: www.gofundme.com/f/help-suzy-get-to-hogwarts
If you would rather contribute in a different way, restaurant gift cards for take-out, grocery cards. or gas cards are appreciated.
Most of all, please keep praying, not just for me, but also for my family.
