Didn't feel good at the beach. Felt a little better before we left. After we got home, started feeling poorly again. Got fluids with my infusion. Was told to go to ER if I got worse. Got worse. Didn't want to go to ER. Jim called oncologist, he said go to ER because he couldn't figure out my symptoms. Went to Novant Medical Center Huntersville. It was daytime. They ran a bunch of tests that I don't really remember. They said I need a procedure but they didn't do the procedure at Huntersville. There weren't any open beds uptown. I was admitted to Huntersville, until a bed opened up uptown. One opened up in the evening, and I was transferred uptown via ambulance. I was taken to the fifth floor. I was told many times that I needed a procedure but the care team couldn't decide which procedure. Finally got drainage from my heart and my lungs. A liter off my heart and a pound off my lungs. If the fluid had built much more, or gone untreated, I'd have died. After the drainage a drain was put in place for my lungs. Another procedure allowed fluid to drain from the heart sac. I was discharged on the 12th. Right hip is still in lots of pain. Saw my oncologist today. Going to continue current chemo drug and add the new one I didn't want a month ago. It is necessary now. Doctor is optimistic that I will have a good response. Got a referral to Duke, to see about trials for gastric cancer. Also adding palliative care for symptom management. Hopefully will help my hip. Tomorrow I go for my surgical follow-up to get the drain out. Will blog again next week after chemo. Thank you to Katie for typing this for me.
